La 34

La 34 is a small, rural community in northern Honduras. The water source serves approximately 135 families and 6 ranches. Prior to this project, the current water source was a small gravity-controlled system where the sole water treatment consisted of chlorine disinfection. Due to the tropical environment in this area, the water source regularly became muddy, reducing the effectiveness of chlorine to disinfect the water. This was the first of the projects under the AguaClara Program. Currently, the plant is operating smoothly.

Ojojona

Ojojona is a small mountain community about an hour away from Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. The current water source has dramatic spikes in turbidity during the rainy season, rendering the water almost unusable. The plant for Ojojona was designed in the 2005-2006 academic season and construction began in the summer of 2006 with the guidance of ESW SEED volunteers.
