Our Project
Gathering timber can be a grueling and time-consuming task, which is often carried out by the women and children. Deforestation has made wood a scarce commodity for fuel. Collecting wood for fuel is becoming more time consuming and dangerous the further out people must go to retrieve the wood. Besides the dangerous and arduous task of collecting wood, the carcinogen, allergens, and irritants released during the burning of wood often damage the lungs and eyes of those in close vicinity to the indoor wood burning ovens. Amanecer seeks to address the escalating need for a new fuel source by utilizing the sun as a viable alternative to wood. Amanecer has sought out communities that could specifically benefit from the design of our solar cookers. There have been three overwhelming factors in our designs of the solar cookers, expense, locally available materials, and the custom and needs of the community receiving the solar cookers.
